A record of my experiments in fiber crafts. I do not claim to be an artist, just someone who enjoys crafting.

Cowboy Boots
My first attempt at felting footwear. I wanted to make a miniature cowboy boot for a gift exchange at DENSI2012 in Montana. I happened to have an antique child's shoe last so I traced the last, added about an inch all around, extended up for the shaft. Then I flipped the pattern over and traced it again, these two boots actually start joined together at the top. Things I learned-the outside is the first layer laid down, if you're not making both boots with the same design be careful when you flip it! I planned to have one boot with wet felted design and one plain ( to needle felt) instead I wound up with design on one side of each boot. Below are the finished boots. Now I will have to make myself a pair of slippers.

Felting Tragedy
This is what happens when your cat decides to play with your felted sock monkey! Cats LOVE felted toys and these sock monkeys are not hard enough to resist the attack for long.

Another flower
This flower was made by laying out the fiber in a circle. I used a layer of silk Hankie on top and wet felted the fiber working it in all directions. Attach the stem to the back side, make the stamen and needle to attach to the inside.

Spring Flowers
It's spring so I've decided to tackle flowers. These were created by felting two colors of merino over a small smooth rock. The rock is wrapped first with several thin "ropes", that fiber becomes the stamen. They are mainly wet felted but I did use needle felting to correct some problems and to add the leaves - which were then lightly wet felted.

Hearts
A couple weeks ago I got the urge to felt something - anything! I dug out some red and pink fiber and needle felted hearts using a cookie cutter as a mold. I tried needle felting slogans but decided to use beads as accents instead.

Catching Up
Wow, I didn't realize how long it's been since I posted. Most of these use baby doll wool as the core, the monkey, moose, and squirrel are mostly baby doll. I love the way it felts. I haven't done much wet felting lately (except for a botched spiral scarf) but I plan to get back to it when I have a slow day!

My sister sent a picture of a fox in her backyard so I made her this felt version. |
Willow Ptarmigan - I added catnip between the layers so the bird didn't last too long! |
